Selma police Lt. David W. Evans was recently recognized for his service to the city.

Evans was presented a plaque proclaiming him as Law Enforcement Officer 2008 by the Selma Exchange Club recently.

A Selma High School graduate, Evans began working for the Selma Police Department in July 1986 as a patrolman. He graduated from the Alabama Criminal Justice Training Center Police Academy in March 1987, earning the Academic Achievement Award. Evans worked as a detective in the Youth Aid Division under his mentor, Capt. Billy Morgan. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1991 and served as both a detective sergeant and patrol supervisor. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1996 and has served as detective lieutenant, patrol shift commander and commander of the traffic division. Evans is currently working on administrative issues for the police department.

In 2004 he received his Masters Degree from Auburn University-Montgomery. He began his part-time career as an adjunct professor at Faulkner University, teaching courses in terrorism, interview and interrogation and first line supervision.

Evans places a strong emphasis to both his fellow officers and his students on the importance of ethics and integrity in police work. He is married and has two children. Evans is a member of Elkdale Baptist Church.
