Clyde Richardson has announced his candidacy for the city council Ward 4 seat.
He said his ultimate goal is progress for Selma by bringing people together.
“Selma has been held down because of (lack of) unity,” Richardson said. “Industries see it from the standpoint of people that can’t live together can’t work together. My plan is to unify the council.”
Richardson, 47, has worked at International Paper for the past 22 years. He is also an independent realtor and the owner of Club Entourage.
He said one part his plan is to restore neighborhoods and help give Selma a new face to present to the rest of the world.
“The first part of a good image is by cleaning up our neighborhoods,” Richardson said. “We’re going to make it look professional because people come to what they see.”
He also intends to initiate neighborhood watch meetings and keep an open-door policy with ward residents.
Richardson is a member of Second Baptist Church and is unmarried. He has three children.
