MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – Republican Gov. Bob Riley travels to Washington, D.C. for today’s oral argument at the U.S. Supreme Court in a case that challenges the governor’s power to fill vacancies on county commissions in Alabama. The case involves a challenge under the Voting Rights Act to Riley’s appointment of Juan Chastang to fill a vacancy on the Mobile County Commission.
