Saturation patrols have had success and will continue, according to Sgt. Doug Stewart, Administrative Division commander at the Selma Police Department.
From May 10 until June 9, police have served seven warrants, including two for felonies; made two felony arrests, one for theft of property, first-degree, and another for unlawful breaking and entering a motor vehicle; made 10 misdemeanor arrests; written 33 noise ordinance citations; checked on 20 abandoned residences; conducted six field interviews and assisted one motorist.
The saturation patrol is a part of chief William Riley’s plan to curb violence during the summer months.
Riley said his plans also include walking patrols in neighborhoods during the summer months.
Mayor George Evans said, “The police department is working hard. I am convinced the police officers’ intentions are honorable and good. Criminals are smart; they know how to do what they do and they know police officers cannot be everywhere.”
