Jonathan Pitts pleaded guilty Friday before Circuit Judge Jack Meigs to his role in the Nov. 8, 2010 kidnapping and attempted murder of Plantersville native Wallace Daniels.

Upon entering his plea, Pitts asked for forgiveness from Daniels.

“I’d like to apologize for my actions, and I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me,” he said.

By pleading guilty, Pitts received 35 years for attempted murder, 35 years for kidnapping first degree, 10 years for burglary third degree, another 10 years for burglary third degree and 10 years on theft charges for a total of 100 years.

District attorney Michael Jackson said the crimes committed by Pitts and his co-defendant William Goodman warrant heavy sentences.

“This was one of the worst crimes I have seen committed,” he said. “We are going to keep shipping these violent criminals off to prison for a long time.”

When giving his statement to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, Daniels said he was sleeping at his residence located in the Plantersville area when two white males started knocking on his door asking him to open the door because they needed gas.

Daniels refused.

Pitts and Goodman then forced the door open armed with a handgun and knife.

Once inside, the two beat Daniels in the head with a brick. He was then bound with an electrical cord from a lamp and forced into his own vehicle.

Goodman and Pitts then drove Daniels to a lake located in the Burnsville community, forced him out of the vehicle, then attempted to cut his throat, missing and cutting him across his back.

The two then held Daniels under the water until it appeared he had stopped breathing.

Daniels, however, was pretending to be dead and later made his way to the road to seek help.

Goodman will appear on the December docket.
