Less than a week after tornadoes raked through the area, thunderstorms are on the way again.

Chances are, you&8217;ll need an umbrella as you head out of the house this morning.

Late Thursday afternoon, Rhonda H. Abbott, deputy director of Dallas County Department of Homeland Security /Emergency Management Agency, released a forecast from the National Weather Service in Birmingham that strong to severe thunderstorms are possible until 8 p.m.

A low-pressure system and a trailing cold front will move through the region today. The weather service predicts the main threats with these storms will be damaging straight-lint winds and hail.

The area with the highest threat is generally along and south of a line extending from Pickensville to Birmingham and Anniston.

Abbott said activation of storm spotters and emergency management workers may be necessary today.

An EF-2 tornado touched down in Summerfield on Sunday and destroyed 10 buildings. A tornado rated EF-2 has winds from 111 to 135 miles per hour. Eight homes and two buildings were completely destroyed Sunday.
