Staff Report
Selma’s sub-regional games this week will seem like a normal games, except for one difference – a trip to Montgomery is on the line.
Both of the Saints’ varsity teams will play host to Robert E. Lee Friday night.
The AHSAA annually schedules boys’ and girls’ teams around the state to play on different nights. Because both teams matched up with Lee, the agreement was made to play both games on the same night, according to a release from the Selma City Schools. High cost of travel was cited as the reason both schools approached the AHSAA with the request.
The Lady Saints are still undefeated (29-0) after winning the 5A Area 5 title 78-49 at home Saturday night against Carver.
The Saints (24-5) beat Carver 58-56 Monday to claim the area crown.
Both Lee teams earned runner-up spots in Area 6.
The girls’ game will tip off at 6 p.m., and the boys will follow at 7:30.
The winners will advance to play in the Central Regional tournament, which begins at Alabama State University Monday, Feb. 18.
