.A HEAVY SNOW WARNING AND A SNOW ADVISORY ARE IN EFFECT UNTIL
8 PM TONIGHT FOR A LARGE PART OF CENTRAL ALABAMA…
THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR THE COUNTIES SERVED BY THE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN BIRMINGHAM.
.DAY ONE…TODAY AND TONIGHT.
IN SPITE OF A SLOW START…THERE IS STILL THE POTENTIAL FOR
SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION THIS MORNING ACROSS CENTRAL
ALABAMA. HOWEVER…CURRENT INDICATIONS ARE THAT THE HEAVIEST
PRECIPITATION WILL BE FARTHER TO SOUTH…WHICH SHOULD IN TURN LOWER
THE ACCUMULATION POTENTIAL JUST A BIT. A LARGE PART OF CENTRAL
ALABAMA WILL RECEIVE 1 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW…WITH THE HEAVIEST
AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES FROM SELMA AND CLANTON…TO TUSKEGEE AND
ALEXANDER CITY…TO LAFAYETTE AND OPELIKA. LOCATIONS ALONG AND SOUTH
OF INTERSTATE 59 MAY SEE UP TO 1 INCH OF SNOWFALL. IN FAR
NORTHWESTERN PORTIONS…SOME FLURRIES MIGHT PRODUCE A DUSTING. IN FAR
SOUTHEASTERN PORTIONS…INCLUDING TROY AND EUFAULA…SNOW MAY MIX
WITH RAIN FOLLOWED BY SOME FLURRIES…WITH NO ACCUMULATION EXPECTED.
ALTHOUGH SURFACE TEMPERATURES WILL HOVER JUST ABOVE FREEZING DURING
MUCH OF THE EVENT…HEAVY SNOWFALL IS POSSIBLE AT TIMES ACROSS
CENTRAL ALABAMA. IF THESE HEAVY RATES MATERIALIZE…SNOW WILL STICK
TO MOST ALL SURFACES INCLUDING ROADWAYS. USE EXTREME CAUTION IF
TRAVELING THE ROADWAYS OF CENTRAL ALABAMA DURING THE DAY TODAY.
TONIGHT…AS TEMPERATURES FALL BELOW FREEZING AND INTO THE TEENS
