SELMA — Hatian Ambassador Raymond Joseph is expected as a special guest here this weekend.

Faya Rose Toure, president of the Bridge Crossing Jubilee, announced Tuesday the ambassador will attend a conference, “Haiti on my Mind,” at the Larry D. Striplin Performing Arts Center, 1000 Selma Ave., Saturday at noon.

Toure said journalists and Haitian citizens who have experienced the massive earthquake that shook the island nation Jan. 12. The earthquake measured 7.0 on the Richter Scale, killing more than 300,000 people and the death toll is expected to rise as more people are moved from a list of the missing to the list of the dead.

Toure said the session is sponsored by the Haiti Support Project under the direction of the Institute of the Black World headed by Dr. Ron Daniels and by the National Voting Rights Museum and Institute.

“This is just one of many free events offered to the public this weekend,” Toure said.

This weekend marks the 45th Bridge Crossing Jubilee, which offers free seminars, a film festival, an inter-gerneational Hip-Hop Summit and a special benefit concert to save the McRae Learning Center at the Slavery and Civil War Museum.
