The Wallace-Selma women stunned Gadsden State late in the second half.

The Patriots (3-6) scored 10 unanswered points – all of them a result of turnovers – and went on to win 62-58.

WCCS was down 56-52 with 3:10 left in the game when it began an aggressive full-court press.

The result was four straight turnovers that allowed them to take back the lead and eventually the win.

Guard Joy Jones led all players with 15 points and hit the layup that put the Patriots ahead 58-56 with 2:01 left. The Cardinals never threatened again.

A 9-0 run earlier in the half, capped by a Shawnese Armistead 3-pointer, allowed WCCS to cut Gadsden’s lead to 51-49.

The Cardinals (7-5) would have gone scoreless for the final three minutes of the game were it not for Shannon Wilson’s layup with 6 seconds left.

Center Andrea Doss-Beardan led Gadsden with 12 points, and both Niala Harris and Catie Kuhl scored 10.

Gadsden had chances to put WCCS away for good but was never able to push through. A 10-2 run with 7:43 left in the game gave the Cardinals their biggest lead at 51-40.
