Gov. Bob Riley has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people or people responsible for the shooting death of Joshua Jackson.

Jackson, 16, was a Selma High School student shot and killed while walking with a friend near GWC Homes.

“We are glad to have this reward from the governor’s office,” 4th Judicial District Attorney Michael Jackson said as he released the information.

Selma police have continued their investigation into Jackson’s shooting death Feb. 28 near Marie Foster Street and St. John’s Avenue.

One witness told police four males, one with a gun, approached Jackson and his friend.

Authorities said the witness, who they declined to identify, said one of the males drew a handgun and said, “Give it up.”

Administrative Division Commander at the Selma Police Department Sgt. Doug Stewart said, “The friend stated he and the 16-year-old ran in different directions when (the friend) heard what appeared to be gunshots.”

Police arrived shortly after the shooting and found Jackson in the street. The coroner pronounced Jackson dead at the scene.
