The wait is finally over for the Meadowview Christian School Trojans, and when they take the field Friday every play will count.

The Trojans open the regular season at home Friday at 7 p.m. and will face the Ashford Academy Falcons.

Meadowview coach John Glasscock said the Trojans have just been putting the finishing touches on their game plan.

“This week we’ve tried to smooth everything and polish everything up,” Glasscock said. “We’re getting all our kicking game in.”

Glasscock said, from what he’s seen in practice, his team is not exactly in mid-season form.

“I don’t think we’re as good as we’re going to be later on in the season,” Glasscock said. “The jury’s still out on some of our players. We picked up a few new ones and we’re not quite sure how they’re going to react to a game situation. We’re not sure how good we’re going to be, but I think we’ll be better than we were last year.”

Ashford will bring a new coaching staff with them when they come to town Friday.

Glasscock is not exactly sure what the Falcons will throw at his team, but it’s a coaching staff he’s faced before and he at least has an idea of what his team will see.

“I really don’t know what to expect. We’re actually going in blind,” Glasscock said. “I know that their coach Mack Williams has been in coaching a long time and he’s from the old school. I think they’ll line up and play smash-mouth football. They’re going to be real sound on defense and they’re going to be well coached, so I’m expecting it to be a real good football game.”

Glasscock said he’s ready to see how his team responds to a game situation.

“I’m just kind of looking forward to see how our new kids are going to respond to a game situation,” Glasscock said. “This is an entirely different football team than we had last year. A lot of kids that started for us last year are back and they’ve gotten bigger, stronger and faster. We’re expecting a lot out of them.”
