Dallas County’s Yellow Dot program will continue this weekend at Westwood Baptist Church in Selma.

The program, which is free, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Yellow Dot program, Dallas County Sheriff Harris Huffman said, can be the difference between life and death when first responders arrive on the scene of an accident.

“A yellow dot in the rear window of your vehicle will alert all first responders to vital information in your glove compartment like name, contact person, medical history, allergies, names of doctors,” he said. “Having this information will help to ensure that you receive medical attention you need during the first golden hour after a crash or other emergency involving your vehicle.”

The Yellow Dot program provides participants with a yellow dot sticker for their car, which lets first responders know their vital information is on board. A photograph is taken of each participant and placed in a folder with important information, which is completed on a form.

The form includes the person’s name and address, a phone number of someone to contact in case of emergencies and medical history and allergies as well as medications taken.

The program, Huffman said, is a cooperative effort between local police officers, sheriff’s deputies, state troopers, emergency medical services, fire departments and senior centers to assist Dallas County citizens “in a time when they might not be able to help themselves.”

There will be a representative from Westwood Baptist Church to help everyone sign up for the program.
