Area drop outs have the opportunity to do an
about face by participating in a program by the same name.
About Face was developed five years ago, and J.L. Chestnut III, the program’s site manager says it’s a success.
Now, Chestnut is looking for new recruits to train at the National Guard Armory on U.S 80 West. The program takes youths, 16 to 21 and provides incentives for them to earn a GED. Classes include life skills, interpersonal relations, careers, computer literacy and there’s a mentoring program.
Once the youth earns the high school equivalency, the incentives come for seeking employment.
If the youths stay on the job for 90 days, they’ll continue to get the money.
Youths may apply through Selma Career Link.
