The Selma Police Department is still gathering information on a Wednesday night shooting that left a Selma man with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
According to Selma Police Department Lt. Johnny King, officers responded to the emergency room at Vaughan Regional Medical Center at around 10 p.m. to reports of an 18-year-old shooting victim with a gunshot wound to the back.
“He didn’t know who shot him, but we have some suspects and some leads,” King said. “We feel pretty good about them and hopefully we will make an arrest soon.”
The incident occurred at J&J Trailer Park on Old Montgomery Highway.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was likely in the wrong place at the wrong time, King said.
“We don’t think he was the intended target,” King said. “We think there was a previous incident between the people shooting and the people the victim stays with. He might have just gotten caught up in the middle.”
King said they believe the shots were fired from a car and the victim was probably hit in the back as he was trying to get away.
Investigators believe the shots were fired from a car, possibly from a handgun.
King said the incident is still under investigation, but the department is confident in the information they have gathered.
