Local golfers dominate Masters Games tourney

Selma and Dallas County golfers nearly swept all events in the Masters Games state golf tournament at Valley Grande Golf Course Oct. 1-2.
The tournament included singles events, two-man teams and a pitch and putt contest.
The two-day event, held by the Selma Recreation Department, had more than 100 golfers.
Tommie Gilbert took first in 55-59 year-old ladies singles and pitch and putt, and partnered with Jerri Burford for first in doubles.
Ray Hollingshead took first in 60-64 singles and pitch and putt and paired with Elton Reece for first in doubles. Reece took second in singles, and Albert Southall took third.
Barbara Moore and Pat Vines took first in 60-64 ladies doubles.
Johnny Moss took first in 65-69 singles.
Edmonia Borden took first in 65-69 ladies singles, doubles and pitch and putt.
Lewis Thomas and John Paris took third in 65-69 doubles, and Karl Smith and Andrew Allen took fourth.
Bob Phillips won 70-74 singles.
Annye Braxton took first in ladies 70-74 singles, doubles and pitch and putt.
Henry Dubose and Wayne Robinson took fourth in 70-74 doubles.
Len Crain took second in 75-79 singles and first in doubles.
Pat Knight took fifth in 75-79 singles, second in doubles and third in pitch and putt.
Bob Baker took second in 80-84 singles and partnered with Henry Gibbs to win doubles.
Hollingshead won the award for straightest drive, Southall won for longest drive, Knight won closet to pin No. 4, and Crain won closest to pins 6 and 7.
