VALLEY GRANDE &045; The public safety director has been appointed and the final touches are being made to the building.

The Valley Grande Public Safety Building is slated to open in October.

The building will house a fire station, the public safety director’s office and an office to be utilized by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department.

Lee made mention of the Sept. 13 robbery of the People’s Bank & Trust branch, saying that having a local post for law enforcement and patrol cars in the area will hopefully deter criminals. Lee also said the Sheriff’s Department is &8220;optimistic they’re going to be able to tie down the people who did that.&8221;

According to reports, the Sheriff’s Department was on the scene within eight minutes of the call.

Ready to go into the building is furniture donated by State Farm Insurance and Agent Bob Myers of Selma and a U.S. flag that will be placed in the front of the building. The donated flag was courtesy of Gene Williams and Woodmen of the World Life Insurance.

In council member reports, Patsy Moore stated beautification of the Valley Grande Walking Trail is still ongoing.

Moore also reported clean-up day is scheduled Sept. 29 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

Councilman Donald Chandler reported a Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held Thursday, Sept. 27, 7 p.m. at Valley Grande City Hall for residents of the Valley Grande Golf Course Subdivision.

Martin Middle School Principal Mike Blair was in attendance and wanted to thank the council for contributions made to the school this year.
