Salvation Army sale will put money in community

As you tidy up your home this summer in preparation for the fall, why not bring those boxed up summer clothes and household accessories collecting dust to someone in need?
The Salvation Army Advisory board will hold a yard sale Saturday, Sept. 10 beginning at 7 a.m. on 524 Broad St. All monies raised from the event will go toward benefiting the organization’s multiple services such as women and men ministry groups, utility and rent assistance, character building programs for children and the community and nursing home care.
Maj. Tonya Roberts said the organization is in dire need of funds.
“We’re very low in funds and this is a way to continue our services here in the community,” said Roberts. “It’s the end of the fiscal year, (which) ends in September and we’ve not made budget so we’re trying to do all we can; this is one easy, quick way to raise money.”
Roberts said the public should contact the Salvation Army office at 872-1646, for more information about the sale, which will include a variety of things at varied prices.
“We’re collecting between now and the sale,” Roberts said.
“Well take anything that’s resaleable — items someone would want to purchase. We’ll also have bake sale items and refreshments for the public to buy.”
Roberts encourages the public to bring in their donations to 2104 Franklin St. or mail them to P.O. Box 1166, Selma 36702.
The nonprofit organization, Roberts said, will also hold a barbecue sale Oct. 5 beginning at 11 a.m.
Plates are $6 each and delivery is available for multiple purchases of five plates or more.
The Salvation Army will also hold revival services Sept. 12 through 16 at 6 p.m. each day to wrap its September activities. The services will feature puppeteer and singer Debbie Domer.
