On a hot, steamy, wet Friday night, Meadowview Christian marched up and down Wasden Field and defeated Abbeville Christian 48-0 in the two teams’ AISA season opener.

The Trojans (1-0) scored four unanswered touchdowns in the first quarter to take control of the game.

Quarterback Randal Hamilton hit receiver J.R. Lowe with a touchdown pass, and Brett Collins finished with 60 rushing yards, one touchdown and six tackles on defense.

At the 7:41 mark of the second quarter, Devan Steward broke loose for a 15-yarder, and Hamilton sliced through the Abbeville defense for a touchdown and a 35-0 lead.

In the second half, Hamilton picked up where he left off, going 43 yards for his third score of the night and giving the Trojans a 42-0 lead.

On the ensuing kickoff, Abbeville’s Shelby Watford took the ball to the Trojans’ 10-yard-line. But that’s as close as the Generals (0-1) got to crossing the goal line.

On the second play from scrimmage, Meadowview’s Daniel Blackmon picked off quarterback Chip White’s pass and took it to the house for a 99-yard touchdown.

Meadowview coach Rick Jackson said his team’s experience showed in their play.

“Our kids played good defense,” Jackson said. ” We have players that have been in this system for three years, and it showed tonight.”
