In a game between two teams who’ve had tough starts to the 2011 football season, someone will come away with their first taste of victory when the Meadowview Christian School Trojans take on the Ellwood Christian Academy Eagles.
The Trojans (0-3, 0-2) will face the Eagles (0-3, 0-2) at Wasden Field Thursday night at 7 p.m. in a region game.
Meadowview coach John Glasscock said the matchup between the two teams could develop into a rivalry that benefits the city of Selma.
“This is going to create a good rivalry that I think is going to be good for the city of Selma and both schools,” Glasscock said. “It’s always nice to have a rivalry. I think it’ll be very motivating for both schools.”
To prepare for the Eagles, Glasscock said his team first has to get healthy coming off a 55-16 loss to Sumter Academy in which three starters sat out.
“We’ve got to get some injured players back on the field,” Glasscock said. “I know we had three starters out last week against Sumter and I’m hoping to get them back. I don’t know if we’ll have all of them back, but I hope we have a couple of them back.”
Glasscock said the biggest threat to the Trojans on Thursday will be the speed of the Eagles.
“In order to play with Ellwood, we’re going to have to contain their speed,” Glasscock said.
“They’ve got a lot of speed. We’re going to have to keep them contained. Defensively, they run to the football real well and pursue real well. We’re going to have to do a good job blocking on the corners.”
