Board should move on

In the ongoing battle to keep Dr. Geraldine Allen off the Selma Water and Sewer Board, another salvo was fired by board members Bennie Ruth Crenshaw, Johnnie Leashore and Aubrey Vick when they voted to file a motion for reconsideration following a ruling by Circuit Judge Tommy Jones saying the water board &8220;lacks standing because it failed to show the existence of a justifiable controversy.&8221;
This week, Jones threw out the motion.
The Alabama Ethics Commission earlier ruled that there was no violation when the city council voted to place Allen on the water board.
It’s becoming more and more obvious that the majority of the board (Crenshaw, Leashore and Vick) are doing everything they can to keep Allen off the board.
Why? We feel it’s because they fear what might happen if a person who does not follow their way of thinking is able to serve on the board.
In other words, Allen presents a threat to them since she has the ability to think for herself and act on her beliefs rather than be a rubber stamp for what the trio wants her to do. In addition, she poses a threat in way of being a possible catalyst for change on the board, something else that we’re sure is keeping board members Crenshaw and Leashore awake at night wondering whether their board salaries will go away.
Especially since Allen has publicly stated she will not accept any compensation for serving on the board, which we find to be a refreshing concept in light of the majority of the Board’s preoccupation with power and money.
We believe it’s time for the board to accept the court’s ruling, quit playing personal games and expending time and money on frivolous court filings in a fleeting attempt to protect their own personal self-interests.
All it does is continue to distract the Board from properly handling the taxpayers’ business and blurs their focus on supplying their customers with the best possible service at the lowest possible cost.
