Where’s The Report?

To The Editor:
A while back, Dr. Ralph Ioimo and his Public Safety Consultants Inc. were retained to do a “study” of our troubled police department.
On June 26, the Times-Journal reported that Dr.Ioimo requested the city council to withhold information about the initial findings of his report because he was concerned an accurate portrayal of the situation would not be given. The paper also reported that he promised the report would be made public once it’s completed.
In fairness to Dr. Ioimo, for one to glean the facts from any report it must be complete. But my question to him is: When will it be? And once it is complete will he and the city council honor the promise above and make it’s contents available to the public?
It’s pretty much a foregone conclusion to many in Selma including myself, a recent victim of crime I might add, that the police department is in shambles and paying a company to simply confirm it smacks of fiscal irresponsibility.
However, fiscal irresponsibility or not, it was our $ 48,000 that was spent on this study and we deserve to know, as soon as possible, what’s going on with the police department and what needs to be done to fix it.
