Frances Stallworth Lewis
Mrs. Frances Stallworth Lewis, widow of the late Rev. G. Franklin Lewis, former pastor of the First Congregational Church of Montgomery, Ala., entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 30, 2007.
Mrs. Lewis was a native of Gordonville, Ala., where she was born June 15, 1910.
Mrs. Lewis resided in Pascagoula, Miss., for a number of years where she was a member of the Meridian Street Church of Christ until illness prevented her from regular attendance.
She also formerly resided in Montgomery, Selma and Mobile.
She was the oldest child of the late Amos and Sallie Surles Stallworth of Lowndes County, Ala.
She was a retired educator giving over 30 years of service in Randolph County, Ala., Southern Normal School in Brewton, Ala., and Brundridge, Ala.
She also served many years alongside her husband in the pastoral ministry at the Ross Street Christian Church and the First Congregational Church of Montgomery.
She was preceded in death by her brother; Bernard Stallworth and Ulysses Stallworth, her sisters; Bessie Rice, Ora Bell Lawrence, and Helen Rudolph.
Cherishing her memories are a loving daughter JoAnn and her husband Dr. James H. Carter, Sr. of Selma, Ala.; two grandsons, James H. (Juansonya) Carter, Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama and Johnathan V. (Angela) Carter of Houston, Texas; great grandchildren, JaJuan and Jaylen Carter of Birmingham, and Christopher and Joseph Carter of Houston, Texas; sisters, Amy Lawrence of Gordonville, Ala., Catherine Carnes of Cleveland, Ohio, and Lydia (Torry) Kidd of Mobile; sisters-in-law, Aroneta Stallworth and Myrtle Stallworth of Mobile; an extremely devoted and loving niece and caregiver, Harriet S. Moore of Pascagoula, Miss.; many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral hour on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at the Andrews Street Church of Christ, 1862 Andrews Street, Mobile, Ala. Interment will follow in the Eastwood Memorial Gardens in Montgomery, Ala.

Samuel L. Starks
Mr. Samuel L. Starks, age 38, of Orrville, Ala., died May 31, 2007, at Vaughan Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be announced at a later time by Miller Funeral Service.
Angel P. Melton
Infant Angel P. Melton, of Selma, died May 27, 2007 at UAB Hospital.
Graveside services are scheduled for Friday, June 1, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Fairlawn Memory Gardens with Rev. Will Jackson officiating. Miller Funeral Service directing.
Survivors include her parents, Jared Sherard Melton and Tamico Hall; one brother, JaReione Melton; and grandparents, Mary Livingston, Martha Melton, Raymond Melton and Pauline West.
Jalin Jones
Jalin Denell Jones, 1 month old, of Marion, Ala., died May 29, 2007, at her residence.
She was born on April 11, 2007.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, June 4, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Springhill Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Bryant officiating. Burial will be in the cemetery. Miller Funeral Service directing.
Survivors include her parents, April N. Jones and Tamorris D. Jones; sister, Takaiya Nicole Jones; grandmothers, Gloria Starks and Yvenica Evansl; grandfathers, Richard Starks and Cornelious Knox; Louise Lipcomb, Maude Starks, Mary Knox, and a host of aunts and uncles.
James David Bain
James David Bain, age 91, of Selma, died Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at Warren Manor Heath Care.
Mr. Bain was born on August 16, 1915, in Heflin, Ala.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2007, from noon to 2 p.m. at Dryden Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Dryden Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Triplett officiating. Burial will follow in Pinetuck Cemetery, Heflin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James V. Bain and Pearl Phillips Bain; and a sister, Ruby Bain McLaughlin.
He is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
Mr. Bain, a native of Cleburne County, was a resident of Selma for the past 35 years. He was a member of Wylan Baptist Chuch.
Mr. Bain was a farmer and served in the United States Air Force.
Lee Joseph Lapsley
Mr. Lee Joseph Lapsley, age 58, of Florida, died May 29, 2007, in Marion, Ala.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, June 4, 2007, at noon at Marion Baptist Academy.
Burial will be in Deyampert Cemetery. Miller Funeral Service directing.
Martha Crawford
Mrs. Martha Crawford, age 74 of Demopolis, Alabama passed May 24, 2007 at Bryan Whitfield Hospital, Demopolis, Ala.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2007 at noon at the Eastern Star Baptist Church, Demopolis, Ala. Rev. John Crawford will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery.
Family Hour will be Friday from 6-7 p.m. at the chapel. The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Tom Rudolph Sr.
Mr. Tom Rudolph Sr., age 85, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at his Collirene residence in Lowndes County.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2007, at noon at Old New Bethel Missionary Church in the Lowndes County community of Collirene.
Mr. Rudolph, who was a life-long self-employed farmer, former chairman of the Deacon Board and Civil Rights Activist, was the husband of the late Emily Hrobowski for nearly 52 years, and is survived by his only child, a loving and caring daughter, Cynthia (Alvin McGuire) Rudolph.
Tom’s memories shall be cherished in the hearts of those he left behind: his daughter, Cynthia (Alvin McGuire) Rudolph of Tyler, Ala.; stepsons, Henry (Shirley) Rudolph of Selma and Willie (Betty) Cown of Chicago, Ill.; grandsons, Rodney (Rishelia) Rudolph of Collirene, Ala., Tom Rudolph Jr. of Collirene, Ala., and Justin Rudolph of Huntsville, Ala.; granddaughter, Nelson (Mary) Lendsey of Collirene, Ala.; great-grandchildren, Roneshia, Ozsheaunna, WynXeldric, Rheonna, Raelynn and Taelor; special necie, Emma Lou Harris; special cousins, Steven (Barnett) Logan and Charlie King Jr.; and many other relatives and family and a host of friends and neighbors.

The burial will be at the New Bethel Church Cemetery in the Collirene community.
The family will hold repass after the funeral service at the home of Tom Rudolph Sr., in the Collirene community.

Michael Orlando Stallworth, 35, a resident of Selma, passed May 27, 2007.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 2, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Tabernacle of Praise with Revs. Johnson and McDole officiating. Burial will follow in Sandridge churchyard cemetery with J.H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include a son, Sabastian Jackson; father, Mack Stallworth and many other relatives.
Family will receive friends on Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Joseph Whitehead
Mr. Joseph Whitehead, age 88, of Plantersville, Ala., died May 27, 2007, at Warren Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 2, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Miller Funeral chapel with Elder Angelo officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Miller Funeral Service directing.
Survivors include cousins, Odessa (Charles) Brown, Elder Angelo Johnson and Evelyn Morrow; and friends.

William Edward Smiley
William Edward Smiley, 57, died May 27, 2007, at Vaughn Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 24, 1949, in Selma. He attended Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School in Brooklyn, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Lewis; three sons, Terry Lewis, Kevin Lewis, and Donald Lewis (Sherron); six grandchildren, Ashley Allen, Myessha Gordon, Devin Lewis, Keivonna Lewis and Deondrick and Keondrick Peterson; four brothers, Daniel, Donald, Kennedy, and Sperlin Jr.; four sisters, Gail, Karen, Patricia, Shirley and a host of family and friends.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1548 LeGrande Street, Selma, Ala., with the Reverend F.D. Reese officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
Tommy L. Rose Sr.
Tommy L. Rose Sr., age 47, of Selma, passed away Thursday May 31, 2007, at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Dr. Kenny Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery.
Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2007, at Lawrence Funeral Home.
Mr. Rose is survived by his wife, Brenda A. Rush Rose; two sons, Tommy L. Rose Jr., and Alex W. Rose; brothers, Marcus Rose, Curtis Rose, and Bill Buster; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Rose; mother, Peggy Buster; stepfather, Howell Buster; and stepmother, Lillian Rose.
Active Pallbearers will be Frank Thorton, Edwin Thorton, Mark McElhaney, Shelton Nichols, Rayborn Hill, and Ronnie Ballentine.
