Mary Esther Borden Coleman
Mary Esther Borden Coleman, age 98, of Greensboro, AL died on May 4, 2007, at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. She was born on April 8, 1909, in Hale County. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Pennington and Annie Gray Jack Borden; her husband, Bestor Wynne Coleman, Jr.; and one brother, James Jack Borden.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Coleman Oliver (Howard) of Pleasant Hill, AL; two sons, Bestor Wynne Coleman, III (Dianne) of Greensboro, AL and James Pennington Coleman of Houston, TX; one grandchild, Mary Ann Olive of Birmingham, AL.
Graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2007, at 2:30 at Greensboro Cemetery with the Rev. Alton M. Phillips officiating. Kirk Funeral Homes Greensboro Chapel directing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
Mr. Leroy Hill
Mr. Leroy Hill, age 81, son of the late Benjamin and Charity Hill, passed on April 8, 2007 in Dallas, Texas. The funeral and burial were held in Long Beach, Calif., on April 14, 2007.
Leroy’s early education was obtained in the Dallas County School system.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and retired in 1965. He was awarded the Korean Service (2) Medal, UN/China Service, and the Navy Occupation Good Conduct Medals for his contribution during the war years. After retiring from the military he was employed by GTE of Long Beach, Calif., for 19 years.
He was a member of Grant AME Church in Long Beach, CA for many years. After relocating to Dallas, Texas, he joined the St. Paul’s AME Church.
Leroy was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice and son, Kevin. He leaves loving memories with his son, Anthony (Mildred); five grandchildren, three brothers, Ben, Eugene, and John Hill; four sisters, Lillie Thompson, Mildred Parker, Earnestine Callens, and Marjorie Remy; one uncle, Joseph Mitchell and aunt, Beulah Mitchell; and a very special friend, Constance Springer.
Leroy completed a book on his life entitled “From Selma
to the Super Bowl.” It will be published by Joshua Tree Publishing Co. in May 2007.
Norman Carter Kenington
Norman Carter Kenington, age 79, of Selma died Friday May 4, 2007. Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday May 8, 2007, at Pine Flat Baptist Cemetery with Dr. Michael Brooks officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Kenington is survived by his sister, Pauline Seigel K. Worthy, and his brother-in-law, Charles G. Worthy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Kenington is preceded in death by his mother, Zula Martha Kenington, his father, Eli B. Kenington, his sisters, Alma Louise K. Peeke, Elizabeth Rebecca K. Wilson, Martha Amelia K. Bearden, Elminie K. Mott, his brothers, Otha Ray Kenington, Cloyd Burford Kenington, and John Marshall Kenington.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday May 8, 2007 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Mattie Mae
Jones-Ingram
Mrs. Mattie Mae Jones-Ingram died peacefully at her daughter’s (Glenda) home on April 30, 2007, in Pensacola, Fla.
Funeral services will be held on May 5, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Houser Chapel Memorial AME Zion Church (Pensacola) with the Elder Lester Jacobs officiating.
Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery with Joe Morris and Son Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Ingram accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. I. C. Acoff of Selma.
Mrs. Ingram was preceded in death by her parents , Mr. & Mrs. Robert
(Annie) Jones of
Selma, her husband, John; sister, Martha (P.D.) Chestnut of Selma, Al; brother, Sam, Sherman, Herman, and Will Washington of Selma.
Her precious memories will be cherished by her daughter, Min. Glenda (Elder Eric) Truss of Pensacola; son, the Rev. Paul James Marzette Ingram of Norwood, N.C.; three stepsons, John Ingram Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; Ray Tripp of Pensacola, and Atty. Ted Ingram of New York City, N.Y.; stepdaughter, Atty. Lisa Ingram of New York City, N.Y.; two brothers, Benjamin (Carolyn) Jones, Sr. of Selma and Robert Jones Jr. of Aliquippa, Pa.
Four granddaughters, Queenester Marzette Ingram, Alonna Lett of Pensacola, Vatedra and Brittany Marzette of Montgomery, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Special thanks to longtime friends, Minnie Foster, Barbara Ledd, Mattie Price, Nyrtle Henderson and Lula Johnson of Selma.
Andrew Lynn Sewell
Andy Sewell, age 51, passed away Friday May 4, 2007, in a local nursing home.
Surviving are his brothers, Robert L. (Jan) Sewell, William M. Sewell, Bruce L. Sewell, Thomas H. Sewell, and Steven C. Sewell; his sisters, Sharon (Larry) Kynard and Debra A. Rolling; an uncle, Robert Hunter; an aunt, Ollie Arnold; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday, May 7, 2007, at 9 a.m. at Selma Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted in the chapel at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Rod Rochester officiating. Interment will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens.
The family would like to thank the employees of Warren Manor Nursing Home, Cahaba Hospice and The Montgomery Cancer Center along with a special word of thanks to Gail, Emma, Tracy, Johnny, Ray and Mr. Sewell’s special friends at Warren Manor and David Summerlin; Dr. White, Dr. Vega, Dr. Jacob Wood of the Montgomery Cancer center.
The employees of David Summerlin Painting will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The American Cancer Society or Cahaba Hospice.
