bond.

Eugene Lesure remained hospitalized Wednesday at Vaughan Regional Medical Center, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Selma Police Department Det. Jeff Hardy said the shooting occurred shortly after 4 p.m., at their 4676 Water Ave. home.

“He was sitting in his recliner. She asked him for some money, and he denied her,” Hardy said. “She left the room and came back with a .38 revolver and fired one shot to his chest. The doctor said the bullet was five inches from his heart.”

Hardy said the spouse denied the shooting, saying her husband “was outside shooting at some cows” that had gotten out of a pasture. She claimed her husband “walked back inside and collapsed on the floor.”

Hardy said the incident is still under investigation.
