Selma-Dallas County Sav-A-Life is planning their annual Walk for Life and the community’s support is needed.

The May 5 walk will begin at 10 a.m. following the 9 a.m. registration. The two-mile walk will begin and end at the First Baptist Church parking lot, located at 325 Lauderdale St. The walking route will go through Old Town.

“During the walk, we’ll stop by the (Sav-A-Life) center so people can see what we’re really about,” Jennifer Dobbs, executive director, said.

Dobbs said this is Sav-A-Life’s only big fundraiser of the year and the center’s operation is very dependent upon church and community contributions.

“We receive no government or state funding,” Dobbs said.

According to Dobbs, last year’s walk brought in roughly $13,000.

“We’re looking to beat that,” she said.

The community is strongly encouraged to participate in the event.

“Anybody can (participate in the) walk,” Dobbs said. “We’ve even had people in wheelchairs to come out.”

Sav-A-Life, located at 218 Union St., is a non-profit-non-denominational Christian ministry that aims to help women facing pregnancy crises. The center offers emotional support, counseling and resource information free of charge.
