Two long-time, locally-owned Selma businesses are soon to be one and the families involved couldn’t be happier about it.

King Building Material Company and King Hardware & Supply have been purchased by Fuller Building Supply. The transition will be made Monday, April 2.

King Building Material began in 1978 when Craig King Jr., purchased the building and operations of Selma Building Material.

The company has been owned and operated by the King family since that time.

Yarbrough said that she learned a lot about business and how to make customers feel appreciated from her father, working with him until he died in 1981.

She and her mother, Nelle King, have been with King Building Material from the very first day of operation. Yarbrough said her mother has been the driving force behind the business these past 29 years.

Fuller Building Supply is also a longtime, family business.

Fuller said he was approached by the Kings about purchasing the business and &8220;felt like it would be the right thing to do. We felt like it would enhance our business.&8221;

Both operations will continue to operate in their present locations, Fuller said, although some changes will take place.

Fuller took the opportunity to thank the people and &8220;loyal customers who have been with us 37 years.&8221;

He said he and his sons &045; Bruce and Boyd &045; are &8220;real excited&8221; about the buy-out.

The Kings decided to sell the business because &8220;all of our children have grown up and moved away to pursue their education and other careers, so my mother and I knew that it was time to sell,&8221; Yarbrough said. &8220;My husband and I called and met with the Fullers to discuss the possibility and three weeks later we signed the agreement.&8221;

Both Yarbrough and longtime employee Rocky Jones &045; who has worked for the company for 12 years &045; will stay on.

Fuller said he expected the King Building Material location would shut down for a few days to complete the changeover of computers and other necessary operations. Then both locations will operate under the Fuller Building Supply and Fuller Hardware Company signs.
