A single bad inning for the Morgan Academy softball team was all it took to lose hold of its game against Faith Academy Friday.
The Lady Rams broke out of a 1-1 tie with nine runs in the second and went on to a 12-1 win.
An error in the game’s opening at-bat and two ensuing hits got Faith an early run. Lauren Lewis drove in leadoff hitter Amy Dennis for a 1-0 lead.
Morgan’s leadoff hitter, Jaye Lyn Lawrence, singled in the bottom of the first and scored on a Cursey Oaks hit.
Faith knocked soft bloops and line drives through every hole in the Morgan defense the next inning. Thirteen batters and nine hits later, the Rams were on top 11-1. Faith had six consecutive RBI hits in the frame.
Katie Cumlander added the final run with an RBI single in the third.
Hayes Cothran singled to lead off Morgan’s half of the third, but the Lady Senators couldn’t get a run out of it. Cothran went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Dennis took the win after pitching three innings of scoreless relief. She allowed one hit and struck out three. Starter Lizzy Hess worked two innings and gave up one earned run on three hits in the no-decision. Four of Hess’s five strikeouts came in the second inning.
Anne Larkin took the loss after going five innings and allowing nine earned runs.
