Major General Woodard (Woody) Extron Davis Jr.

Retired Air Force Major General Woodard (Woody) Extron Davis Jr., 85, of Ft. Walton Beach, died Saturday in North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville from pneumonia.

Gen. Davis is survived by Ann Davis, wife, of Shalimar; Betty Lyons, sister, of Selma, Alabama; Debra Ann Lewis, daughter, of Ft. Walton Beach; Martha Davis Whitley, sister-in-law, of Texas; Evelyn Davis, daughter-in-law, of Idstein, Germany; grandchildren Guenevere (Eric) Wischmann of Knoxville, Tennessee; Bryan Davis of Idstein, Germany; Jessica Ann Gere of Atlanta, Georgia; and Andrew Flood of Atlanta; great-grandchildren Madison and Grant Wischmann of Knoxville, Tennessee and Sevayka Gere of Atlanta, Georgia; nephews Richard Tabor (Delores) and John Tabor of Selma; nieces Jessie Lea Boone (Fred) and Natoma Williams (Keith) of West Virginia.

A visitation for family and friends is scheduled Wednesday, February 14 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Heritage Gardens funeral home, 2201 N. Partin Dr., Niceville.

The funeral will be held at the First Baptist Church of Ft. Walton Beach, 21 First Street on Thursday, February 15 at 10:00 a.m., with Dr. Howard Gates, pastor of First Baptist Church of Ft. Walton Beach and Rev. George Schmidt, Way of Life Unity Church of Ft. Walton Beach, officiating.

A graveside military burial service with honors will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, at the Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, Alabama, followed by a reception for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society’s Winn-Dixie Hope Lodge of Gainesville, Florida.

Geraldine (Gerri) Griffith

Griffith, Geraldine (Gerri), 92, passed away Monday evening Feb. 5, 2006 at Lakeway Memorial Hospital, Morristown, Tenn.

Funeral service was Feb. 7, and internment was Feb. 8.

She was a past member of Burnsville Baptist Church and taught at Dallas County Elementary School in Plantersville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer and son Ron.

Surviving are sons Tom (Phyllis) of Morristown and Garry of Huntsville, Ala.; daughters Pat (Al) Johnson of Huntsville and Betty of Morristown, 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Easter Star, Hamblen County Chapter 31, 728 Panther Creek Court, Morristown, TN 37814 are requested.

Henry Clifford Epperson

Henry Clifford Epperson “Epp”, age 72, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 13 at his home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin Duncan officiating and burial following at Springhill Cemetery.

He will be greatly missed by all that have known him.

He spent 33 years of service with the Dallas County Commission Road Crew.

He was a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a great-grandfather.

He was much more than a name, he was the one you could go to in the family when you needed someone to listen, he was there when you needed him, and he was a man of his word.

He was so much more than can be expressed in mere words. It has been truly a great loss to all that have known him, he made a great impact on the heart of many people.

We will keep him in our hearts and hold on to the memories dear. Rest in peace. We love you.

Mr. Epperson is survived by his wife Marvine Duncan Epperson, a son Clifford Wayne (Cathy) Epperson, his daughter Clara Rushton, his daughter Carolyn (Curtis) Miley, a brother Hubbard Epperson, and two sisters Thelma Tucker and Eunice Perry. Mr. Epperson is also survived by his grandchildren; Grady (Charlene) Cobb, Rhonda (Mike) Tupper, Shayne Roberts, Michelle Epperson, Jennifer Epperson, Michael Epperson, Shannon (Robin) Terry and also his great-grandchildren; Miranda Cobb, Courtney Cobb, Andrew Terry, Alex Terry, and Jamie Epperson.

Mr. Epperson was preceded in death by his parents Mr. George and Idell Epperson and a daughter Angela Epperson.

Pallbearers will be Grady Cobb, Robert Watford, Shayne Roberts, Mike Tupper, Michael Epperson, Daryl Epperson, with Raymond Cook, J.C. Peoples, and Randy Duncan as alternates.

Visitation will be Wednesday February 14, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Carl Williams

Carl Williams, age 71, resident of Selma, died Feb. 6 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 15 at noon at Miller Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. G. C. Williams. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include one daughter, Natasha Prevo of Laurel, Maryland; one brother; and six sisters. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Johnnie Mae “Cokie” Hamilton

Johnnie Mae “Cokie” Hamilton, 72, of Beloit, passed February 7, 2007. Memorial service will be 1pm Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at Mt. Calvary AME Church with Rev. Amos Smith officiating. Final arrangements by J. H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home.

Alfonso Lewis Reese

Alfonso Lewis Reese was born June 19, 1951, to James and Callie Reese of Selma, Alabama.

He was the tenth of twelve children. He accepted Christ at an early age at Union Grove Baptist Church.

Alfonso graduated from R. B. Hudson High School in Selma, Alabama. After graduating from High School, he came to Los Angles to continue his education at Los Angeles Southwest College.

He served in the U.S. Army and received an honorably discharge on June 24, 1974.

Alfonso was employed by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation for 15 years where he held he position of Plastic Part Fabricator.

Alfonso was preceded in death by her father, James Herbert Reese; brothers, Lawrence (Delores) of Lynwood, California and Sylvester (Yvonne) of Marietta, Georgia.

He departed this life on December 29, 2006 at his residence.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Callie Reese; three brothers, James Reese (Geraldine), Pete Reese (Gerogia), and Bobby Reese (Marsha); six sisters, Melanie Johnson of Alliance, Ohio, Arnsey McBride (Charles), Bettie Reese, Thelma Reese, Mattie Jones (Lloyd), and Geraldine Porter (Dempsey) of Shreveport, Louisiana; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
