The Dallas County Junior Varsity team

lost the last round of the Shoot Out Invitational Friday night against the Central Hayneville Lions, 67-52.

The Francis Marion Varsity Rams also faced off against the Central Hayneville Lions in a close game.

It seemed from early on that Francis Marion had the game won. They showed good teamwork offensively and good defense down court. The Rams led the first period 15-10.

The Lions started to get their act together in the second period when Tommie McCray shot for three points.

But the Rams did not let the glory go too far and dominated the period with a lead of 28-19 at the half.

In the third period, the Lions’ game really started to advance as Al Rush shot for three to shorten the lead of the Rams by just two points, coming a long way from the score of the half.

Rush shined again when he faked a shot but passed

to Tony Longmire to make a lay-up to tie the game for the first time, 37-37.

The Rams began to slack off both offensively and defensively in the fourth quarter as McCray stole the ball from the Rams to make a lay-up ,

placing the Lions in lead for the first time.

The Lions then advanced to an exciting lead over the Rams for a final score of 62-51.

The Dallas County Hornets closed the night with a match up with West Blocton.

Hornet coach Willie Moore allowed some of the guys that may have not gotten a chance to play often during the season to shine in this game.

Josh Spears of Dallas County showed his talent in the first period with three back-to-back slam dunks. Thomas King also had a dunk of his own.

Dallas County led at the end of the first period, 22-5.

Marquess Williams of West Blocton started off the second period with a three-pointer but that three was not enough to come out on top.

The Hornets had amazing defense down court, allowing only 12 points for West Blocton at the half for the entire game.

Dallas County led 34-12 at the half.

In the third, LaDarius Ulmer shot a three-pointer for Dallas County and the magic did not stop for the Hornets in the third. Defensively, Byron Ford of Dallas County showed all his worth. The Hornets only allowed West Blocton to score four more points in the period, bringing the score to 50-17.

The final score remained in favor of the Hornets, 58-29.

Marcus Willis of Dallas County was the lead scorer with 12 points.

Corey Cook, Jevoris Kelser, and Marquess Williams lead West Blocton with six points each.

Coach Moore says that the tournament went well.

“I look forward to having more tournaments and I want more teams committed to playing next year,” Moore said.

” I want to say thanks to all the teams who supported us in the Shoot Out.”
