The Angel Tree in Selma Mall is still filled with Angels in need of adoption.

One of them is William. He is 10 years old. He wears a size six shoe, and a size 12 shirt. He wants some educational computer games for Christmas. His family can’t afford to buy him much, which is where the Salvation Army comes in.

But things aren’t as good as they’ve been.

Judy Morgan spent more than six hours in the Selma Mall, waiting for giving persons to adopt deserving children from the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree.

There were two adopted by about 2 p.m. There were 120 that remained. Capt. Don New of the Salvation Army said at this time last year there were only about 50 children on the Angel Tree.

The Salvation Army plans to make the season brighter for 225 families this year in Selma and Dallas County, including 600 children. Anyone wishing to drop by the Selma Mall and pick an angel from the Angel Tree has until Dec. 18 to purchase a gift and drop it by the Salvation Army at 2104 Franklin St.

You can adopt as many angels as you’d like, said New, and suggests interested persons spend as little or as much as they would like.

“We are also accepting unwrapped toys and donations,” New said. “We want to make sure all these children have a good Christmas.”
