Deadlines are approaching for the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree registration.

The Salvation Army, Major Tonya Roberts said, will hold applications at its Franklin Street office Thursday and Friday for families who need food assistance and other forms of aid during the holidays.

It’s important, Roberts said, for anyone who comes in to be prepared, to make sure the process goes smoothly.

First off, she said, the proper forms of identification are needed.

“They’ll need their picture identification, and for the children, they will need birth certificates or Medicaid cards,” she said. “They will need all their income including food stamps and all of their bills for the household.”

Applications are for the Salvation Army’s Christmas assistance and Angel Tree programs, and Roberts said, they also help senior citizens with meals during the holidays.

Registration is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both Thursday and Friday.

This, Roberts said, is the organization’s verification program, which helps them be assured they are helping people that are truly in need.

“We want to be sure we are helping those who cannot make it on their own because these are tough economic times,” she said.

The Christmas program helps children from newborns to 12 years old, Roberts said.

Parents need to know their children’s clothing sizes as well, Roberts said.

“They need to know their children’s shoe size, clothing size and other information like that,” she said. “That’s a key. They also  need to know an item on their child’s wish list.”

Last year, there were 1,300 angels on the tree and 354 families. This year, Roberts said she expects similar numbers.

Roberts encouraged everyone who plans to apply to arrive early and be prepared so the lines will move quickly.
