Norma Jean Mitchell Barrett

Norma Jean Mitchell Barrett died Thursday, November 9, 2006 at Chilton Medical Center, Clanton, Ala.

She was born Wednesday, September 8, 1948 in Brent, Ala., daughter of the late Archie Levi Mitchell and the late Elva Letha Averrett Barrett.

She was a waitress.

Surviving are her husband, Vernon Levon Barrett, Jr. of Clanton, Ala.; 3 daughters, Cynthia (Jim) Freshour, Fla., Letha A. King, Selma, Ala. and Dena (Alan) Smith of Demopolis, Ala.; 4 sons, Robert (Shelly) Barrett of Thorsby, Ala., Gary L. King of Selma, Ala., Jerry “Chip” Chavis of Valdosta, Ga. and Vernon L. “Bucky” Barrett III of Selma, Ala.; 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 2 brothers, Aywon L. (Elizabeth) Mitchell of Centreville, Ala. and James Marlowe (Ann) Mitchell of Selma, AL; sister, Pat (Cecil) Messer of Selma, Ala..

Friends will be received 6-8 Friday, November 10, 2006 at Martin Funeral Home. Services will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Alpine Baptist Church with Rev. Rod Rodchester officiating. Interment will follow in Alpine Cemetery in Maplesville, Ala.

Artelia Evans Hardy

Artelia Evans Hardy, 83, of Pleasant Hill passed November 10, 2006 in Detroit, Mich.

Final arrangements will announced later by J.H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home.

Maggie England Jones

Maggie England Jones of Sprott, Ala., age 89, died at her residence on November 10, 2006. Complete arrangements will be announced later by Lee and Rollins Funeral Home.

Hattie Foster Johnson

Hattie Foster Johnson, age 67, resident of New York, N.Y. died Nov. 7, 2006. at Harlem Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Walker Mortuary.

Mr. Kenneth Meiklejohn

Mr. Kenneth Meiklejohn, 83, resident of Gulf Shores, Ala. died on Friday, November 10, 2006 at his home.

Mr. Meiklejohn was born in Princeton, N.J. on June 8, 1923 and later moved to Glendale, Calif.

He joined the Air Force at 17 and served as a pilot in WWII participating on D Day, and later served in the Korean War.

After his military service Mr. Meiklejohn moved to Gulf Shores, Ala., where he owned and operated several businesses.

Mr. Meiklejohn was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Kelly Meiklejohn and a brother, William Meiklejohn. He is survived by sons, Charles Kelly Meiklejohn and Kenneth Allen Meiklejohn, daughters, Gail Dutry and Monie Meiklejohn, and granddaughters, Kelly Michelle Meiklejohn and Abigail Chaz Meiklejohn.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 13, 2006 from the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Foley, Ala.

Interment will follow at Friends of Magnolia Cemetery in Mobile, Ala. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

John ‘Johnny’ Sims

John “Johnny” Sims, age 53, of Selma, Ala. died on November 6, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 15, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Miller Funeral Chapel. Burial in Fulton Cemetery with Miller Funeral Services directing.

Survivors include: spouse, Jo’ann Cleveland; sons, Jo’varsava Sims and Johnny Sims both of Selma, Ala.; four daughters, Jonezzia Sims, Mary Allen, Tyneshia Cleveland and La’Kendra Cleveland all of Selma, Ala.; one grandchild, one son-in-law, eight brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-laws and a host of aunts, cousins, uncles, friends and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Demetrius Jefferson

Demetrius Jefferson, age 19, of Marion, Ala. died November 3, 2006 in Hale County Hospital, Greensboro, Ala. Funeral was Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 12:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Newbern, Ala., where Rev. James Williams is pastor. Rev. Lee King officiated. Burial followed in the Jefferson Cemetery. Lee and Rollins Funeral Home directing.

David Earl James

David Earl James, age 20, of Brent, Ala. died November 6, 2006. Funeral was held November 11, 2006 at Pine Grove Baptist Church, Brent, Ala. The Pastor Rev. James C. Moore officiated. Burial followed in the Perkins Cemetery, Brent, Ala. Lee and Rollins Funeral Home directing.
