The troubles of the Dallas County Hornets last week could be summed up with a single number: 2.
DCHS defenders usually saw the jersey number of Chelsea’s star running back Davin Palmer twice every play – once when he was running at them and again when he was running past them.
If opponents’ running attack is the Hornets’ Achilles heel, there are going to be more problems at the end of Friday night’s ball game.
Wilcox-Central features a powerful backfield that will be called on all night.
“They’re big, fast and strong,” said DCHS coach Trey Baggett. “They have a lot of size. They’re not real fancy. They’re going to line up and run the ball right at you up the middle.”
The Jaguars don’t like to throw, Baggett said, but they can and will if the need arises.
The Hornets’ focus for this week has been fairly simple. They just want to do something – anything – better than they did their first game.
“We’re working on just getting better on both sides of the football,” Baggett said. “We’re going back to fundamentals – blocking, tackling. We’re trying to get better each week.
“One thing we need to focus right now on is our all-around game.”
