Band competition delayed

After almost a decade, the show will not go on this year for the Central Alabama Band Competition.
The competition was slated to take place Saturday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. at Memorial Stadium. However, because of a lack of participation, Selma High School band director Brandon Williams said the boosters would have to regroup and find a better date.
“We are going to have to cancel, or postpone it because of the cancellation of some of the bands,” he said. “That’s what is going on right now. I’m meeting with the boosters.”
Rather than continue the program with only a few bands, Williams said he would rather delay or cancel the program until they can present a full schedule.
Though the fall event has been cancelled, Williams did not rule out the possibility of a spring competition.
“When people pay their money, we want to make sure we put on a great show,” he said. “We are going to try to rev it up for next year. We might have something like a spring jamboree. We’ll have to see how things work out.”
After meeting with the boosters, Williams said he will have a better idea of when the next competition will take place.
