The Morgan Academy Senators capitalized on their chance to play in a big league ballpark by posting a pair of victories.

Morgan notched back-to-back wins, one of the regional varieties, on Saturday morning when they squared off against Lowndes Academy and the Fort Dale Eagles inside the home of the Montgomery Biscuits, Riverwalk Park.

In game one, the Senators took on the Lowndes Academy Rebels, who acted as the home team for the tri-match.

After a full seven innings of play, Morgan walked away with a 4-1 victory.

Zach Hughey took home the win on the mound and Richard Lang notched the save. Jeremy Smith, Blake South and Clint Maroney each posted a trio of hits in the victory.

In game two, the Senators faced the Fort Dale Eagles in their first regional game of the season.

After five innings, the Senators proved to be the better team by posting a 17-1 victory.

Smith took home the win from the mound.

He and Maroney also banged out a trio of hits in the victory. Josh McAteer and Hughey each finished the night with two hits.

On Tuesday, Morgan (11-3, 1-0) will travel to Greenville for a single game with the Fort Dale Eagles.

While one set of Senators were taking care of business on the diamond, another group was handling their opponents on the courts.

The Senators tennis team posted a pair of victories over Tuscaloosa Academy and Monroe Academy.

Against the Knights, the Senators posted seven wins, but it wasn’t a completely clean sweep.

Drew Pomeroy lost his first match of the season, 10-2 to Paul Hahn at the No. 1 singles position. The Senators rallied to win their next five matches before losing back-to-back matches in the No. 6 and No. 7 singles positions.

Rhett Rhyne, Houston Searcy, Cain Sommerville and Kyle Brignac won their matches.

Reese Armstrong and Jody Glover fell 8-6 and 8-4 respectively.

Reed Stewart rounded out the singles competition with an 8-7 victory over Hanson Platt.

Pomeroy and Searcy teamed up to beat the combo of Hahn and Stefan Swindoll, 10-8. Rhyne and Sommerville knocked off Jonathan Pridgen and Doug Randall 10-1.

For the Lady Senators, Carrie Glover and Jaime Pilcher earned singles wins at the No. 2 and No. 5 slots respectively. Amy McGuckin, Rachael Sherrer and Laura Talton fell at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 positions.

McGucken and Glover lost in No. 1 doubles to Hannah Notoro and Sina Kuhn, 10-5. Sherrer and Talton fell to Katie Johnson and Ashley Shamblin, 10-5.

The turnout against the Monroe Vols was different.

The Senators swept the Vols 8-0 in guys’ singles and then 2-0 in doubles.

The Lady Senators lost at No. 1 and No. 6 singles but were able to win the remaining matches and swept the doubles.
