Alleged shooter comes in

An early Sunday morning shooting has yielded one arrest and serious injuries for the victim.

According to the Selma Police Department, Shemika Ann Mendenhall, 34, turned herself in to authorities in connection with the shooting, which took place at a club known as Club 9,000.

Selma Chief of Police William T. Riley said the victim, Samuel O’Neil Taylor was shot as he exited the 2001 Race St. club at about 2 a.m. on Nov. 13.

“The victim followed his friend out of the club when they observed several females sitting around a white vehicle,” he said. “The victim’s friend became involved in a conversation with the female suspect later identified as Shemika Mendenhall. The conversation became heated and the suspect produced a handgun, pointed it toward the victim and his friend.”

Riley said the suspect fired at them, striking the victim in the groin area, causing heavy bleeding.

Taylor was transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center where he was listed in serious, but stable condition.

Mendenhall fled the scene after the shooting, but later turned herself in to police at about 10:30 a.m. Monday morning.

Mendenhall has been charged with assault first degree and  is being held under no bond.

A bond hearing is planned for Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in District Judge Bob Armstrong’s courtroom at the Dallas County Courthouse.
