The &8216;second season’ starts on a positive note for the Concordia Lady Hornets. They beat rival Judson Lady Eagles 66 – 57.

Judson played most of the first half with the lead, but no more than a one possession lead. Twice in the first half the game was tied, but each time Judson went back on top with a 3-pointer from Amber George.

The Lady Hornets stayed close while getting the kinks out from their two-month lay off. Both teams stayed in a zone defense for almost all of the first half of play.

Judson lead at half time 36-33. DaShawn Butler had 18 points at the half for Concordia.

The Lady Hornets tied the game at 36 on a 3-point play by Butler.

Concordia scored five straight points that included a steal and a lay-up by Jazzlyn Prince. That gave the Lady Hornets a three-point advantage.

They held Judson to just one field goal the last 10 minutes of the game. &8220;We played hard,&8221; stated Lady Eagle coach Lee Jones, &8220;but we had a spurt where we just couldn’t score. We couldn’t stop Butler, she made the difference.&8221;

Butler finished with a career high 23 points and also pulled down 11 rebounds. Prince added 13 points and 6 steals.

George topped Judson with 16 points. Shaneilla Allison contributed 11 points while Charity Fuller and Billingham added 10 points. Jennifer Holmber grabbed 12 rebounds.

Wallace Comes Up Short

The Wallace Community College Patriots are still trying to find some cohesiveness this season. The add another notch to their loss column by the hands of the Alabama Southern Eagles by the score of 81 – 74. &8220;We didn’t make enough plays,&8221; said Patriot coach Johnnie McCalpine. &8220;There was times we didn’t rebound the ball when we should have and we found ourselves playing up hill all night.&8221; Coach McCalpine also mentioned that its tough when you’re playing all freshman. You can’t always count on them to make plays when you need it verses a team that plays sophomores. There is a difference.

Wallace offense couldn’t get going early in the first half. They trailed by as much as 11 points. Alabama Southern held a 33 – 29 advantage at the half.

In the second half of play the Eagles didn’t

allow the Patriots more than one shot per possession and that allowed them to get into their running game.

Wallace stayed in the fight and cut the lead to 61 – 59 at the 5:03 mark. But AS pulled away on second chance shots. The Patriots fall to 0 – 2 on the South Division of the ACCC. Former R.C. Hatch stand out Fred Lewis topped all scorers with 17 points for the Eagles. Brandon Thomas led Wallace with 16 points. Douglas Murray dropped in 16, while Tray Williams added 10 points and grabbed a game high 17 rebounds.

The Wallace Community College Lady Patriots defeated the Alabama Southern Lady Eagles 63 – 47 to go 1 – 0 in the South division of the ACCC. Michelle Keith led with 13 points. Moesha Perry scored another double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
