Sarah Bruce

Sarah Scott Bruce, age 89, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 in a local hospital. Graveside will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 14, 2006 at Old Live Oak Cemetery with Rev. George Sedberry officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Bruce is survived by her sons; William Curtis Bruce (Jean) of Tyler, TX and John Scott Bruce of Selma, grandchildren; Michael Bruce (Leslie), Kim Ezell, great-grandchildren; Elam Bruce, Lydia Bruce, Ashton Ezell, Corey Ezell, Kayla Ezell, nieces; Veta Wall, Laura Swortwood and nephew; Keane Scott.

She was preceded in death by brothers; Joe Scott, John Scott, sister; Frances Sobera, and nephew Lawrence Sobera. Mrs. Bruce was a lifelong member of Church Street United Methodist Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Vaughn Medical Center for 8 years.

Honorary pallbearers are members of the Selma Lions Club. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Park Place Nursing Home.

Roy Lee McLaughlin Jr.

Roy Lee McLaughlin Jr., age 87, died Tuesday January 10, 2006 in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday January 13, 2006 at the Chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Rev. George Sedberry and Rev. Glenn Taylor officiating. Mr. McLaughlin is survived by his children Roy Lee McLaughlin III (June) of Selma, James Robert McLaughlin (Mary) of Birmingham, Marinda McLaughlin Dennis (Charles) of Johnson City, TN, Donald Bain McLaughlin (Leah) of Orrville, AL, and Daniel Warren McLaughlin (Pam) of Mobile, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, sister; Doris McLaughlin Poole of Slyvan Springs, AL, and 2 nieces and 1 nephew. He was preceded in death by his wives: Ruby Bain McLaughlin and Marie Whaley McLaughlin. Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law: Jeffery Lee McLaughlin, James Robert McLaughlin Jr., Jason Pierce McLaughlin, Charles Edward Dennis Jr., Kevin Oxford McLaughlin, Craig Frierson Fulcher, Randolph Bain McLaughlin, and Matthew Trenton Hughes. Family visitation will be Friday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Gwendolyn D. Ray

Gwendolyn D. Ray, 39, of Selma, Al died January 5, 2006 at Vaughn Regional Medical Center. Services are scheduled for January 13, 2006 at 12:00 noon at the Ellwood Community Church with Gary Lamar Crum officiating. Burial in Live Oak Cemetery. Directed by Walker Mortuary.

Survivors include two daughters, Lakeisha Ray and

Tijuana Griffin; mother, Irma Tolbert and Father, Steve Ray; sisters Kay Ray and Elaine Hutchins; brothers, Steve Ray and Bernard Ray; a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Ernest Washington, 54, of Boston, MA died January 3, 2006 at a local nursing home. Services are scheduled for January 14, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Lewis Brothers Chapel. Burial in New Live Oak Cemetery. Directed by Lewis Brothers Funeral Home.
