A 30-year-old Selma man pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of third-degree burglary in a Dallas County Circuit Court, according to the district attorney’s office.
Charles Ryan Lovelady received a total sentence of 20 years in the case.
Lovelady was arrested on May 26, 2005, for stealing construction equipment, power tools, utility trailers and even telephone poles. Totaling $100,000, the items were taken from Global Manufacturing Industries, located at 3131 Old Montgomery Highway.
Lovelady was implicated, along with two other area residents, in a string of burglaries in and around area construction sites all over Dallas County.
Property reported stolen from a Dallas County Country Club, including a Mazda 4×4, was also recovered from Lovelady’s property.
Lovelady’s arrest was the result of an investigation conducted jointly between the Selma Police Department and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department.
Lovelady is the first suspect involved in the burglary ring to be convicted.
The others, Heath A. Ammons, 31, of Hartselle, and Richard Lee Boozer, 35, have also been arrested and charged in the case.
Both Boozer and Ammons are charged with receiving stolen property from Lovelady.
Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson said he was pleased with the conviction.
“Nobody is above the law,” he said. “We will continue to ship off criminals who break into homes and businesses.”
