Jerry Siegel shot images with a box camera of the interior of the Harmony Club on Tuesday in preparation for his February showing in Atlanta at Gallerie MC.

His photographs will also be shown in August at the Ogden Museum during White Linen Night, New Orleans’ heat-of-summer art stroll.

Fathered by Schuster Siegel in 1958, Siegel grew up in Selma from 1958-1976, and attended college at the University of South Alabama in Mobile and The Atlanta Art Institute.

He’s worked as an advertising and corporate photographer for 19 years, shooting portraits of Colin Powell, Jimmy Carter, CEOs, families and artists.

He shot photos throughout Selma:

YMCA interiors, ballparks, private homes. “I normally shoot people.

Taking images of architecture is a whole new thing,” Siegel said.

“I got a great shot of John Lapsley at home before he died.

I’m trying to document the Selma I grew up in,”

Lapsley was a renown painter and descendant of Selma city founders.

His fine art work is in the collections of The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, The Telfair Museums, Jepson Center for the Arts, Loeb Partners, Boyd Collar Knight LLP and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

He lives in Atlanta with wife Patti, son Jeff, and their three dogs:

Dixie, Scout, and Ike.
