Marie B. Majors of Safford died Monday, November 21, 2005 at the age of 90, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. P. Majors, on July 19, 1972.

Born Ruth Marie Baker on September 11, 1915, in the community of Wood, Virginia, she moved with her entire family to Marion Junction on February 2, 1926, then later to Safford.

The daughter of L. E. and Mallie Creech Baker, she was the eldest of seven children and is survived by four brothers and sisters, Euel Baker of Orrville, Curtis Baker and wife Tina of Salem, Oregon. Lucille (Pat) Baker Bayne and companion Virginia Colee of Selma and Margaret Baker Sanders and husband Don of Mobile, as well as sister-in-law Mickey Baker, widow of L. E. (“Chig”) Baker, Jr., of Montgomery, and the late Felix Baker and wife Doris of Selma.

She is further survived by three sons, Hennan Majors and wife Linda of Orrville, Paul Majors and wife Violet of Birmingham, and Leon Majors of Safford; four grandchildren, Melynda Majors of Washington, DC, Shannon Majors Anderson and husband David of Aimore, Christopher Majors and wife Jennifer of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, and Elizabeth Majors of Macon, Georgia; and, four great-grandchildren, John Dickson, Daulton Anderson and Amanda Anderson of Atmore, and C. 3. Majors of Port Saint Lucie, Florida.

Mrs. Majors led a long and active life- She was postmaster for the Safford Post Office from 1950 until her retirement in 1986.

She served a term on the Dallas County Board of Registrars in the 1980s, and, as a Certified Master Graphoanalyst, published a popular local advice column based on handwriting analysis with a dash of hard-headed good sense in the Selma Times-Journal for over a decade, entitled “Pen Points, by Marie Majors.”

She traveled extensively all over the world, including South

America and Europe, and spent two weeks in China in 1987.

A lifelong proponent of education, she attended Wood

Grammar

School in Wood, Virginia and was a graduate of Marion Junction High School and the International Graphoanalysis Society School of Chicago, and returned to college after retirement to receive her bachelor of arts degree, magna cum laude, with a double major in psychology and history from Judson College in 1985.

An accomplished pianist, Mrs. Majors received a full scholarship to the Chicago Conservatory of Music in 1933 and served as pianist at Center Chapel United Methodist Church in Central Mills from 1947 to 2005, where she was also an active member.

Funeral services will be held at Lawrence Brown Chapel on Friday, November 25th, at 2:00 p.m., preceded by visitation from 12:00 noon to 1:50 p.m.

Graveside services will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery, Selma, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, J. P.

Pallbearers will include Russell Foster, Robert Morris Caine, Sam Givhan, Pearce Caine, Lee Jones and David Bayne.

Isaac Harris Sr.

Isaac Harris Sr., of Selma, AL died November 18, 2005 in Texas.

The services are scheduled for Saturday, November 26 at 1p.m. at Providence Baptist Church (Selma) with Rev. Brown officiating the service. Visitation will be Friday, November 25 at 12:00 noon.

Clarence “Jemal” Young, 50, of Mount Vernon, New York, formerly of Selma, AL, died November 17, 2005 at Mt. Vernon Hospital.

Burial will follow at West Highland Memorial Gardens. Directed by Wills Funeral Service.

Survivors include his mother, Bernice Cauthen of Tuscaloosa, AL; sons Jibreel (Kim) Young of Atlanta, GA and Kamal (Jasmine) Collins of Murfreesboro, TN; daughters, Melody Young; of Atlanta, GA and Janel Young of Mt. Vernon, NY and sister Wendy Young of Tuscaloosa, AL; nieces, grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Roberta C. Bryant

Roberta C. Bryant, 58, of Marion, Alabama died November 18, 2005.

Services will be held Saturday, November 26, 2005 at 12:00 noon at Marion

Baptist Academy. Rev. Lee Curtis Underwood officiating the service.

Memorial Service will be Friday, November 25 at 5p.m. at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church with Rev. Carlton Hogue presiding.

She leaves to mourn a loving husband of 40 years Rev. Richard Bryant; five children, six grandchildren, four sisters and two brothers.

She worked as a legal secretary for more than 27 years, and was employed by the law firm of Chestnut, Sanders and Sanders; (Selma, Alabma) and the Law Office of Robert H. Turner; Marion, Alabama.
