After losing in the opening week of the season to Edgewood Academy, the Morgan Academy Senators righted the ship and never lost for the remainder of the season. Through nine games, the Senators posted victories, trailing in only two games during that stretch. This weekend, they have the opportunity to continue that roll by playing host to the Pike Liberal Arts School Patriots at Senator Field.
The Senators and the Patriots are by no means strangers. Last season, the Senators advanced into the second round of the AISA playoffs with a first round win over Pike Lib 10-6.
Despite the teams being at opposing ends of the state, there is a Selma connection in Troy.
Morgan does have one advantage going into the playoffs. Over half the team was dressed and on the sidelines when the Senators hoisted the State Championship trophy in Troy in 2003.
If the Senators can move into the second round of the playoffs, they will be one week away from a trip to Movie Gallery Stadium. In Round two of the tournament, their opponent will be familiar as well.
Kickoff for Friday’s playoff game against Pike Liberal is set for 7:30 p.m., and will be played at Senator Field.
