Mehan, who filled in at tailback for the injured Dustin Lee, carried the ball 42 times for 248 yards and two touchdowns.

Mehan’s workman-like game play led the Trojans to a 23-7 win over a battle-weary and winless Sparta Academy squad.

The Trojans started the scoring in the first quarter on a 31-yard field goal by Austin Dennis.

The Warriors and their big-play-styled offense captured the lead midway through the opening frame on a 58-yard pass.

That proved to be the only display of offensive fireworks the Warriors could muster.

Meadowview’s Black Hat Defense stuffed Sparta for less than 80-yards of total offense throughout the game.

In the second quarter, Mehan broke free on a 12-yard touchdown rumble and Dennis added the extra point to reclaim the lead, 10-7.

Once the Trojans recaptured the lead, they didn’t relinquish it through the duration of the game.

In the third quarter, the Trojans began to separate themselves from the host team courtesy of a blocked punt by Brook Ross.

Jason Howell recovered the football in the end zone for the touchdown.

With the point after by Dennis, Meadowview’s lead expanded to 17-7.

In the fourth quarter, Mehan scored his second touchdown of the day to, an eight-yard scamper for the score.

The extra point was no good but the Trojans were in full control of the game, stopping the Warriors on their en suing possession and then running the clock to secure the victory.

As a team, the Trojans ran the football 57 times for 306 yards.

While a bulk of the load was shouldered by Mehan, Dennis ran the football nine times for 23 yards and quarterback Blake Smith had six carries for 35-yards.

He also finished the night 4-of-8 passing for 108 yards.

J. R. Lowe finished the game with two catches for 71 yards.

Dennis also had two catches for 37 yards.

The win also helped the Trojans work out some frustrations en route to hosting Escambia Academy Friday night.

Escambia posted a win over Kingwood Friday night leaving the Trojans and the Lions with two losses.

If the Trojans beat Escambia then they will host a playoff game this year, which is one of the senior’s goals. If they lose, it will give them three regional losses and have them traveling in the first round of the playoffs.
