When the Salvation Army kicked off its annual Angel Tree campaign in early November, there were more than 600 names of families in need waiting to be adopted.

Now, less than a month later, there are none.

During the Thanksgiving holidays, the final 26 angels that remained on the two trees at Dave’s Market in Valley Grande and Walgreen’s were adopted, Major Tonya Roberts said, which means the organization can now concentrate on collecting the gifts and donations in preparation for the Dec. 15 deliveries.

“Now it’s time to bring them back and finish shopping,” she said. “We shopped for 100 (Monday) night and we have an estimate of 200 returned. The key thing now is getting the word out that they are due a week from Friday and to remind people to get their shopping done.”

Roberts said she received a check in the mail from one adopting family that said they did not have time to shop. This is fine, Roberts said, as long as they provide plenty of time before the due date.

Roberts said gifts and donations can be delivered to the 2104 Franklin Street office anytime between now and Dec. 9. “You don’t have to wait until the final day,” she said. “That’s the key thing. Last year we had 200 that didn’t get delivered at all. Every year we have people that will bring them in on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and say they forgot them or left them in the trunk of the car. It’s important that they turn them in on time.”
