Margaret Shannon
Dawson
Margaret Shannon Dawson, 84, a resident of Selma, Alabama died September 14, 2005 local hospital.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005 at 12 noon at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church with the Rev. M.E. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Dr. Henry Cemetery directed by Lewis Brothers Funeral Home.
Survivors include; three sons, Robert Dawson, Sr (Selma, AL), Herman Dawson Sr., (Mitchellville, MD) Anthony Dawson (Los Angeles, CA); three daughters, Martha A. Lee (Selma, AL) Mira Dawson (Selma, AL) Evelyn Dawson (Atlanta, GA); one sister, Mary Peoples (Selma, AL). 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one son in law; and two daughters-in-law.
Mrs. Margaret Dawson, a long time citizen of Dallas County was very active in the community and her church. We will cherish her memories and she will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Hattie L. Ellis
Hattie L. Ellis, 85, of Selma, died Monday, September 12, 2005, at a local hospital.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2005, at Good Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. John L. Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include five sons, Robert, Bailey, Willie, Frank and Roosevelt; eight daughters, Anna, Daisey, Mary, Eva, Dorothy, Rosie, Marie and Willietta; 30 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; six sons-in-law; four daughters-in-law; three nephews; and three nieces; and a host of other relatives.
George E. Brown
George E. Brown, 59, of Atlanta, Ga., former native of Demopolis, AL, passed Saturday, September 11, 2005, at a hospice in Atlanta, Ga.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2005, at Morning Star Baptist Church in Demopolis, AL with the Rev. James Dunn and the Rev. Stephen Thurston officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Demopolis, AL.
The remains will repose at the church on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.
Public viewing will be held from 1 -7 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home. Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangement.
Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson, 51, of Jones, AL, died Thursday, September 15, 2005, at his home.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2005, at Little Elam Baptist Church with the Rev. Thornton Stewart officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Wilson; two sons, Domonic Wilson and Payton Wilson Jr.; two daughters, Tamaya Wilson and Rebbie Wilson; three brothers, Allen Wilson Jr., Jessie Wilson and Arie Wilson; one sister, Inez Motley; seven grandchildren; three brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers are nephews and friends.
Minnie Belle
McKinley Luker
Minnie Belle Luker, age 78, died Thursday, September 15, 2005, at a local hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2005 at Westwood Baptist Church with Rev. Winston Brooks & Rev. George M. Sedberry officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
Burial will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery.
Family visitation will be prior to service from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Luker is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty Carol & Tommy Swindle; grandchildren, Christopher, Lauren, and Andrew Swindle all of Selma; one brother, D.C. (Judy) McKinley Jr. of Bay Minette, AL.; brother-in-law, Billy Bozone of Bay Minette, AL.; and numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Luker and her sister, Cornelia Bozone.
Pallbearers will be David Dykes, Tommy Ellis, Frank Middleton, Kenny Ross, Don Smith Jr., and Sol Tepper III.
Louis Martin
Louis Martin, 87, of Dallas County, died Tuesday, September 13, 2005, at a local hospital.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, September 18, at Waymon Chapel AME Church with the Rev. Andrew E. Dawkins officiating.
Burial will follow in Martin Family Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruby Martin and Valarie (Edwin) Wilson; two brothers, Herbert Martin Sr. and Robert Martin Sr.; one sister, Lila Bandy; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephew, cousins and friends.
Lewis Washington
Lewis Washington, 54, of Linden, AL passed Tuesday, September 13, 2005, at a Demopolis hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2005, at Friendship Baptist Church, Linden, AL with the Rev. E.L. Charleston and the Rev. Roy Scruggs officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard cemetery. Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangement.
